What is powerflushing?

Powerflushing is basically a deep-clean of your central heating system. It uses specialist equipment to pump water around the system pipework at a high flow rate to remove any built-up rust or sludge. Sometimes for heavily-sludged systems, we will also add in a chemical cleaner.

Why should I get it done?

Powerflushing has many benefits. It can:

• Increase the efficiency of your heating system

• Reduce noise from radiators and pipework

• Reduce your energy bills

• Remove cold spots from radiators and get them working again to their full potential

How often do I need a powerflush?

Powerflushing is not something you need to have done every year - in fact it should only need doing once every 5 years or so.

 

How do I know I need a flush?

If you have noticed that some or all of your radiators are not heating up as they used to, or there are areas at the bottom of them getting cold, this is a good indication that you have sludge building up in your system. We can confirm this by using quality tests to measure the amount of iron in the heating system water. We can also use a thermal imaging camera to visually see the sludge inside.

Due to the variation of systems, no two power flushes are the same. The duration of flushing depends on how poor your system water quality is, leading to price variation. The number of radiators as well as the type of system can also affect the cost.
